Guided by the principles of the MIT Libraries Enduring Vision, the Libraries have identified the following strategic priorities and initiatives as the areas of investment and focus that are most critical for enabling us to enact our mission and vision.

Maximize Access to Content and Services as a Digital-First Library

• Design services and spaces through a digital-first lens

Pursue a More Open and Equitable Scholarly Landscape

• Increase awareness of open access principles
• Expand our capacity to manage MIT’s open research outputs
  
• Increase understanding of equitable and open scholarship

Advance Data-Intensive and Computational Research and Learning

• Equip the MIT research community with tools and resources for FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) data management
• Expand our capacity to support current and emerging research data management services
• Build a learning community around digital scholarship and open and computationally reproducible research

Focus on Physical Resources that Cannot Be Meaningfully Replicated Digitally

• Assess physical collections, services, and spaces to ensure they are of exceptional quality and singular relevance to MIT research and teaching

Increase Organizational Effectiveness and Belonging

• Improve internal communications practices and systems
  
• Cultivate and nurture a workforce that reflects the diversity of our global research community
• Equip the Libraries to align and collaborate with MIT-wide equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice advocacy and efforts

Exercise Bold Leadership

• Identify where we are best positioned to make impactful change within the library profession
• Communicate our strategy and initiatives effectively to an external audience
